Resources
RPE provides resources to help individuals, whānau, schools, and communities build safer environments, understand consent, and support people affected by sexual harm. Below you’ll find guidance on consent, preventing harm, responding to disclosures, and where to find help.
What is Rape Culture?
Rape culture refers to the attitudes, behaviours, and social norms that minimise, excuse, or normalise sexual violence. It creates an environment where harm is more likely to happen, and less likely to be taken seriously.
What is Sexual Violence?
Sexual violence is anything sexual without consent. This includes all different types of sex, sexual kissing and touching, sending sexual messages or images, and forcing someone to watch a sexual act.
What is Consent?
New Zealand Law doesn’t define what consent is, but rather, defines what consent isn’t. Because of this, we have come up with our own definitions to make this hugely important word a little easier to understand.
We define consent as:
- a free agreement made together
- an enthusiastic yes
